Saphe Link runs in the background and consumes a lot of power

Saphe Link runs in the background

This is nothing new to the app, it has always been running in the background. However, it is new that you are now notified about it.

When your phone is not connected to your Saphe then the Saphe Link app uses Bluetooth on your phone to "listen" for your paired Saphe traffic alarm so that it can connect to it automatically.
Once your phone is connected to a Saphe traffic alarm, the app will start using the GPS on your phone to find your location and calculate the speed at which you are moving. This is to provide you with the right alarms at the right times.

High power consumption

The Saphe Link app uses bluetooth and GPS. There is nothing new to this. Bluetooth does does use much power on the phone, However, it is new that GPS is used constantly when connected to your Saphe. This is necessary for the app to know your location and to continuously calculate and update your current speed allowing you to give you alerts at the right times. The constant use of GPS requires more power than the previous app did. If you do not drive more than an hour or two a day, most phones should still be able to run a full day on a single charge. However, there are differences depending on which phone and model you use - and there is also a difference in what the phone is used for. Therefore some phones may require charging more often than other phones.

What can you do?

  • If you are driving a lot, it may be a good idea to charge your phone while driving.
  • If you have the app open and displayed on the screen use "Black screen" instead of "Map" as it uses less power than "Map".
  • If you want the message "Saphe Link running in the background" removed, you can do this on Android devices the following way: How do I remove the message "Saphe Link is running in the background"
